Ryan O'Shea - Designer & Animator

Once in a while, we will be taking a sneak peek behind the studio door to shine a spotlight on individual members of the small but perfectly formed Ingenious team. We’ve devised a fun Q&A and Ryan kindly agreed to go first!
1. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
When I was younger I wanted to be a chef. I have always loved cooking and food tech was my favourite subject at school. My family was pretty creative so I enjoyed doing arty stuff too!
2. How did you get into graphic design?
For my work experience I came to Ingenious Design which gave me a great taster and influenced me in pivoting to the creative sector, deciding cooking would be better as a hobby. I then did an Art and Design BTEC where graphic design was one of four sections, the others being illustration, fashion and 3D woodwork and metal. You get to study all of them and then focus on your preferred subject in the final year. The fashion tutor wanted me to choose that, but I stuck with graphic design which was my favourite. I then went on to study it at Buckinghamshire New University.
3. What’s your favourite thing about working for Ingenious?
I love my job at Ingenious because of the variety of projects I get to work on – it’s not just magazines and reports or branding or animation but the opportunity to do all of them and so much more - and for a wide range of interesting clients …there are always new challenges and I never get bored. I have also really enjoyed expanding my knowledge and developing expertise in creating animations over the past few years.
4. What’s your favourite food?
My love of cooking has never left me and my partner Mia and I enjoy making meals together. My favourite food is pizza so she gave me an electric pizza oven and we love making pizzas from scratch, including the dough and experimenting with different toppings!
5. What makes you happy?
Animals make me happy! I grew up always having pets at home and Juno, my mum’s gorgeous Hungarian Vizsla is a regular visitor to the Ingenious studio. I have also done a fair bit of pet sitting for her and other friends. Where I live currently, we are not allowed pets but Mia and I are hoping to move into our own place soon and we are so excited about the prospect of getting a pair of cats - and maybe a dog too in the future.
