East Sussex County Council

The client

Ingenious supports East Sussex County Council with design services on a regular basis. We have recently enjoyed working with their Skills and Employment team, in collaboration with West Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council, on a suite of reports to support the Get Sussex Working Plan (GSWP).

The GSWP has been developed in response to the UK government's Get Britain Working strategy and is a 10-year programme aimed at increasing employment and reducing economic inactivity across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove.

The brief

We were initially asked to design one report but ended up working on the entire series. The brief was loose but required us to follow existing brand guidelines, provide consistency, a high level of reader accessibility and completion within tight deadlines.

Everyone thinks they look great! We're really happy with the results!

...Thanks again for your patience and support to get this done.

The results

We designed eleven reports in total, including the main 136-page document Labour Market Data Mapping & Analysis, an Implementation Plan and a series of individual stakeholder reports.

We developed an overall style, look and feel whilst also adhering to existing brand guidelines to provide consistency across all the reports and facilitate engagement. Features such as flowing lines of dots and curved colour blocking give continuity as well as reflecting the local Downland landscape. A different colour is used for each council to differentiate them, with bold section headings, boxes, tables, bullet points, quotes, graphs and maps all employed to aid clarity and simplify large quantities of detailed information. Attractive and striking images are used throughout and a high level of reader accessibility has been achieved.

We completed the reports in a short timeframe and all are available online and are prepared with potential to be printed at a later stage. The team at Ingenious is extremely proud to have played a small part in supporting this important initiative which aims to realise our region's full potential over the coming decade.
